PROGRAM SUMMARY

The program was established to provide financial assistance to facility professionals and associates whom otherwise would not receive financial support from their employer for continuing education courses. If the applicants are eligible to receive support from their employer then they should not apply.

IFMA Chapters and IFMA Councils are actively involved in the process of identifying and approving eligible applicants. The funding for this program is divided equally between the IFMA Foundation and an IFMA Chapter/Council. Therefore, candidates may submit their applications to either organization.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applications submitted must be clearly related to the facilities management profession. Educational programs supported include locally held degree, certificate and designation programs, as well as individual classroom style courses that earn continuing education units (CEU's).

Distance learning programs and self-study courses will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Registration fees associated with conference style programs (i.e. World Workplace registration) are not eligible for the grant program.

Applications must be submitted prior to the course being offered. Funding will not be approved for coursework taken prior to the review of the application.

Applications are open to facility professionals and associates currently active in the facility management profession. Membership of the International Facilities Management Association is not required.

Prior to awarding the grant to an individual, the candidate must receive approval from both the IFMA Foundation and the individual's local chapter or a related council.

IFMA Foundation Trustees and IFMA Board of Directors and their companies or institutions are not eligible for funding under this program.

FUNDING SCHEDULE

Grant funding is for course registration only. Books and other class materials are not normally eligible for reimbursement by the grant program. However, reimbursement requests for specialist books on merit will be considered.

There are two review periods in a calendar year, defined as the Spring Review and the Fall/Autumn Review. The maximum grant award is $1,000 (US) per person per review period.
Application closing dates:

  • Spring Review - 15th April
  • Fall (Autumn) Review - 15th October

Confirmation of funding will be made within 30 days of the dates above.

NOTE: Each IFMA chapter/council is limited to five grants per review period.

APPROVAL PROCESS

Applications Sent to the IFMA Foundation

All applications sent directly to the Foundation by an individual will be reviewed by a panel of judges. The panel will consist of members of the IFMA Foundation Board of Trustees. If deemed necessary by the Foundation, other experts in the field of the proposed course work may be added to the panel.

Once the application has been approved by the Foundation, the submission will be forwarded to the IFMA chapter's review panel and/or respective IFMA council's review panel for approval. Upon approval from both organizations, the disbursement of funds is contingent upon successful completion of the Continuing Education Program. Successful completion is defined as a letter grade of C or better or a pass grade if letter grades are not provided.

The applicant will be required to provide proof of grade (i.e. transcript, grade report, or completion certificate) and proof of course payment (i.e. copy of itemized receipt with amount clearly stated) to the Foundation Manager before funds will be released.
