Industry is demanding more and more transparency of building energy performance in addition to the internal environment provided to occupants. But what level of data is enough to inform a an adequate solution? Join Chicago Chapter of IFMA for a Brainy Bite where Ben Talbot will discuss the latest trends in Real Time Energy Monitoring and Ryan Dick will share innovations in Indoor Air Quality Monitoring for both Tenant Spaces and Whole Building level contexts.

About the Speakers

Ben Talbot

Benjamin is a professional mechanical engineer who has completed a number of commissioning (Cx), retro-commissioning (Retro-Cx) and energy consulting projects throughout the US.  Ben has completed measurement and verification for numerous projects ranging from whole building retrofits to HVAC adjustments in individual rooms, giving him a wide range of experience in methods of tracking energy use.  Ben will share his project experience with several different methods of real time energy monitoring. 


Ryan Dick
Founder and COO



Ryan received his masters degree in Architecture with an emphasis in Structural Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was awarded a prestigious Luce Scholars Fellowship and relocated to Shanghai, China to teach sustainable design at Tongji University. While teaching, Ryan co-founded GIGA (Global Innovations Green Algorithms), the world’s first cloud-based material management platform which ranks building materials according to their health and ecological impact. At GIGA, Ryan continues to build business solutions that drive demand for environmental regeneration. Ryan is an avid researcher of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and its effect on building occupant health and wellness. Ryan lectures around the world about regeneration, health and wellness and social enterprise. He also regularly mentors MBA teams in the exploration of social enterprise within the green building sector. Ryan currently resides in Chicago.
