Chicago, IL 60606

Please join the Chicago Chapter of IFMA for a networking reception and tour of the Natural Resources Defense Council’s (NRDC) LEED Platinum & Living Building Challenge Petal Certified Office.

About NRDC:

NRDC is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of 1.3 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things.   NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations; our water enforcement cases played a major role shaping current water policy throughout the country. Today, our staff of more than 500 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy and communications experts, and others, work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bozeman, Montana and Beijing.

About the Space:

The open floor plan, designed by Architect of Record, Studio Gang Architects, and Design Architect nushu, LLC and engineered by WMA Consulting Engineers, was specifically created in collaboration with NRDC to use fewer construction materials than traditional private office design. Additionally, under the project management and sustainability advising from Closed Loop Advisors and WMA Sustainability Solutions Group, the space meets aggressive environmental goals. The open floor plan contributes to lowered energy and water usage, a decreased carbon footprint, and a reduction in utility costs. The design not only reduces resource use, but also allows for increased collaboration in an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. NRDC’s Midwest office was the first commercial project in Chicago and the first Tenant Improvement project in the world to achieve Petal Certification (Materials, Site, Beauty) under the Living Building Challenge 2.1. In addition, the open plan is LEED Platinum certified under v 2009 for Commercial Interiors guidelines as put forth by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).   The newest addition to this space—which adheres to the most rigorous sustainable building practices—is Materials Petal Certified under the Living Building Challenge v3.0 and aims for Gold-level certification under the LEED v4 Interior Design and Construction for Commercial Interiors Rating System.

A networking reception will follow the tour.  Thank you NRDC for providing the beverage refreshements!
