Internet of Things - A One-Year Follow Up

August 17, 2017
11:30 AM to 1:00 PM
 Add to Calendar

150 N. Dearborn Street
Chicago, IL 60601

Join us for a follow-up presentation by Dan Michaud on the
Internet of Things

This presentation is a follow on from that given to IFMA in 2016. As always with technology, a lot has happened in one year! The phrase “Internet of Things (IoT)” was used widely at the recent IFMA conference in Las Vegas, but there is still confusion in the market about how the IoT pertains to the built environment.

This presentation will provide updates on the concepts and systems that are now defining the IoT, explore the changes in technology and society that are currently enabling its development, and discuss examples of how facility managers are approaching this technology.

After attending this presentation, attendees should:

  • Gain a high level understanding of technology evolution within commercial buildings

  • Understand current market drivers and trends in built environment technology systems

  • Understand examples of how the Internet of Things is being implemented today

  • Be familiar with expected trends in how the Internet of Things will continue to affect the built environment

Dan Michaud joined Arup in 2015 after a career focused on technology systems for the built environment. His 25 years’ experience working in technology design, consulting, contracting and integration firms gives him a well-rounded perspective on technology implementation methodologies in new and retrofit projects.

Dan is a Senior Technology Consultant in the Arup Smart Buildings team and has spent his career becoming familiar with all low voltage/ ICT systems that are used in the built environment, spanning wired to wireless, IT to audiovisual, and security to building automation. His experience working directly with MEP teams in project development and execution give him a unique perspective on the implementation of integrated building systems as well as insight to the fields of sustainability and energy optimization. Dan also has experience in cross-discipline data center development and design.

An experienced technology project manager, Dan has developed customized processes in program and project management for integrated building systems from both a design and implementation perspective. At Arup, he is tasked with developing these processes into management consulting offerings that bring enhanced value to clients.

Currently, he is working with a global software firm to create international facility design guidelines that use a web-portal delivery system with a BIM core toolset. A key project goal is to integrate data handoff to local facility managers and their platforms, enabling life cycle asset and cost management.
