Workplace Violence and Emergency Response – The Human Factor

Even with proper protocols and security measures in place, arguably the most critical and least planned for aspect of emergency response planning is largely ignored – the human factor.  This session with delve into the physiology and psychology of emergency response – to explore the realities of how the body and mind may react during any emergency.  The core take away of this session is to understand that the more consciousness a person can bring to an emergency situation, the more they are able to respond versus react.  The session will also include a discussion of coping strategies for first responders.

Learning Objectives

  • To understand how the human instinctive “fight or flight” respond will affect the body and mind during an emergency
  • Strategies for bringing consciousness to any emergency situation
  • Recognizing the symptoms of, and dealing with, those who are seriously affected by the situation around them
